I recently bought a home that had problems. I knew it was a fixer-upper when I bought it, but I loved the neighborhood and the potential of the home so much that I thought it was worth investing some money and work into it. However, I’m really glad I sprung for the inspection, even though I thought I already knew everything the inspector was going to tell me. It turned out that the whole house needed to be rewired before we could safely begin doing any work in it. I hadn't known that ahead of time. I still bought the house and hired a contractor to rewire it, but if the inspector hadn't told me, it could have led to a very dangerous situation. I started this blog about home inspection to help other homeowners and buyers learn the importance of inspection.
